Sometimes everything starts with a simple joke. Qobad and I were laughing, like two people trying to relieve the pressure of life. But when I forced myself airlessly and said, “It’s nothing,” Qobad’s look changed. Concern flickered in his eyes.

He said, “Be careful… it’s dangerous for the baby.”

But I thought he was being harsh again and didn’t trust me.

A big annoyance developed from that small joke.
Qobad talked about his fear of becoming a father and his worries about the baby on the way, and I about the fatigue and the pressure on my shoulders. He showed his concern with vehemence, and I showed my annoyance with silence.

Maybe we both wanted the same thing: the health of our baby and the peace of our home.
